Google+PCHome

Published by foxfair under Computer, Show me the MONEY

昨天早上剛上班,同事就丟過來一個 link: google.pchome.com.tw,但…. Don’t be evil / Search, no Ads. Why Google Is Like Wal-Mart ,或許看完以後,也能會心一笑。

New guest

Published by foxfair under Life, Mini Schnauzers

E-mails ‘hurt IQ more than pot’

Published by foxfair under Show me the MONEY

From CNN: E-mails ‘hurt IQ more than pot’, this is true.

WTF!!

2Gmail

Published by foxfair under Blog everywhere, Computer

From Seth’s post: Things that change, I confirmed that Gmail quota has been increased up to 2115MB, see my screenshots taken by now.

It’s too late to launch 1Giga free mail for Yahoo!. I think it’s not really important to race this storage size game. Seth made a good point: Things always change is more attractive, if Y! wanna win this game, at least don’t follow the game rule. Try something new, special first.

Game rules

Published by foxfair under General

From Seth’s post: Playing by (and losing by) the rules:

Market leaders make up the rules. They establish the systems and the covenants and the benchmarks that a market plays by. (and yes, a market leader can be a church, a political party or a non-profit) If you play by those rules, you will almost certainly lose.

so, once we have Gmail why we need another Y! 1GB Mail? It’ s not about competition or PR issue or brand image or whatever marketing guys/gals called. Leaders make rule, and No. 2 just follow.

Inequality

Published by foxfair under General

From Anil Dash’es blog: Inequality. I list the interesting ineqality lists below:

* Being a geek growing up != Sociology or anthropology degree
* Coming up with an idea != Inventing something
* Knows a programming language != Understands politics
* Loud != Persuasive
* Gets other people to stop talking != Persuasive
* Coding Skill != Talent in Management, Business Development, Marketing, or the practice of Law
* Writes a lot != Writes well
* Funny != Correct
* Similar to me != Correct
* Well known != Respected
* Rude != Honest
* Polite != Honest
* Fast != Smart

I have Paul Graham’s book “Hacks & Painters” on my desktop too(only read first few sections though), I cannot tell which opinion is correct or not. But it’s valuable to go through Maciej’s argument and Paul’s original article about “Hackers & Painters” and see two-side thinking. Don’t get me wrong, I am not those “wannabies” to be a hacker or a painter. Mostly I intend NOT to be a hacker, at least not too famous. I know the correct way to use this word “hacker” before it becomes too popular. But, how many people do you see(or meet) from Internet whose just match exactly into the list? Too many I think.

Upgrade home ADSL speed

Published by foxfair under Computer, Life

Oh yeah, after one and half years my home ADSL speed is upgraded to 8M(U/L) / 640k(D/L) now. Hinet is the biggest ISP in Taiwan, but it is NEVER the best …. even not include in the top three of “better” one. As a customer, I can only complain a bit and keep using it because we have not-so-many choices in Taiwan, it’s sad.
